Blog: May The Power Be With You
The word “Blog” has been awarded a page in Wikipedia and yet still have some red dots under it every time I typed.
A blog (a contraction of the term “Web log“) is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.
It has not been long since I have my first blog. Signed-up in late May 2008 on Tumblr then a month after that for a Blogger account. Not yet a full five months but let me tell the whole world that they have been very fascinating months.
It’s a journal to quote from Budi Putra when I met him a little while ago. It really is. Given the fact that it is my site, I could write just about anything wander in my mind in my own style.
The longer I’m connected to the world wide web, the more I feel the importance of having purposes (if not say missions) in blogging. So I set one: I want the world to know me. To know the real me because on my blogs I speak-up my own mind. Everything is personal.
Visa versa, people blogs became a medium for me to get to know a little about them. Their interest, knowledge, concerns, desires, dreams, sometime their anger and stupidities. I can even learn through the comments posted there.
I use my blog basically to pour down my emotion. Usually the feeling went back to normal after I wrote my post. Within that less-in-five-months of blogging period, I had a five days of a roller-coaster ride experience when I joined force with the blogosphere to protest on Diknas blunder. I saw before my very own eyes how the words spread faster than chicken pox. My Google Analytics’ stats was only a little picture of what was actually happened. Those five days were a total emotion shaker when I was forced to keep my cool, to be consistent in speaking the cause. Some people could lead me to scream bloody murder for their shallow and ignorant comments if I was not reminded that we were not doing that for our own sake. It was really overwhelming especially when at the end of that five days, Diknas closed down the downloading access. In the post I asked people to give themselves and everybody applauses for the effort. It was a community effort which confirmed my faith about the existence of people who cares.
I made new friends based on that particular issues. The “event” walked me to many other sites I never knew existed and more knowledge too. It was also confirmed the power of words and network. I hope that story answers Aulia’s first question. That importance put more awareness in my own mind about what to write and how to write my post. I’m learning to do things carefully, again aware of the power.
Happy National Blogger Day to you, may the power be with you.
